H. pylori is a bacteria that commonly infects a person’s stomach.
Most of the time this infection is asymptomatic, or without symptoms, but it can lead to problems such as ulcers.
Ulcers are open sores that, in the case of H. pylori infection, happen on the lining of a person’s stomach or duodenum. More severe, persistent infections can lead to stomach cancer.
Common symptoms include pain or discomfort in the upper belly, nausea or vomiting.
There are several tests for testing for H. pylori infection such as: blood tests, breath tests, lab tests and biopsy.
Treatment includes medications that reduce stomach acid and different types of antibiotics.
